Green Bay — Brett Favre's return to Lambeau Field on Sunday will not be the first time the Green Bay football franchise has faced a former Packer icon in an emotional homecoming. When Green Bay met the Chicago Cardinals in a National Football League preseason game on Aug. 16, 1950, it marked the return of former head coach Earl "Curly" Lambeau. The team founder, player, head coach and executive had resigned on January 31, 1950, after a disappointing 2-10 season in 1949, severing a relationship with the franchise that began in 1919. In his 31-year tenure with the Packers, Lambeau led the team to six NFL championships and put Green Bay - and himself - in the national spotlight.
